There are moments as a parent when our dignity goes right out the window, as was the case over the weekend…

Over the weekend, I found myself battling a severe bout of the flu. The symptoms hit me with full force, leaving me dealing with incessant vomiting and relentless diarrhea, Yes, TMI, but we’ve all been there. Despite feeling utterly drained and weak, I knew I had to make something for my kids to eat. In the moment, a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich seemed like the feasible option. I mustered the strength to hobble downstairs to the kitchen in just my underwear.

As I made my way to the kitchen and opened the bag of bread, the smell of the bread immediately overwhelmed me. Suddenly, I felt a wave of nausea surge through me. Without warning, I turned and retched directly into the kitchen sink, all while my children stood there witnessing the unfortunate scene unfold. To make matters worse, the force of my heaving caused an unfortunate accident on the other end, resulting in an embarrassing and messy situation in my underwear. Knowing it was best to just retreat the situation and regroup, I sidestepped out of the kitchen and ascended backwards up the stairs.

The last words I heard before making my retreat were those of Frances, innocently inquiring about my sudden departure. “Where you going, Daddy?” she asked, her voice filled with confusion and concern. After a few minutes, I made my way back down the stairs to finish preparing the sandwiches for my children.

Fortunately, I take solace in the knowledge that my kids were too young to fully comprehend the gravity of the moment, and will have no lasting memory of it.

What are your embarrassing stories?
